Howard Jinnings “Cotton” Peeler, 82, of Quincy, FL died peacefully at home Wednesday, July 25, 2018 with his wife and daughter by his side.A native of Malone, FL, Mr. Peeler had resided in Gadsden County for the past 34 years. He was retired from Centel in Tallahassee since 1993 where he was employed as an Outside Plant Supervisor. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served from 1961 to 1962 and called back into active duty in 1962 as a result of the Berlin Crisis. He was a member of the Flat Creek Baptist Church where he cherished the fellowship, prayers and music.He was preceded in death by his parents, Hubert J and Ollie B Peeler; his brothers, Roy, Robert Allen, Major Harold and Walter Amos; brothers in law, Hubert Taylor and Talmadge Holland. He was also preceded in death by his father-in-law, Malvin Otis McWaters, and his beloved spiritual teacher and mother-in-law, Maudie Bell McWaters; brother-in-law Doyce McWaters and nephew, David McWaters. Survivors include his cherished wife of 47 years, Martha McWaters Peeler; one daughter, Pamela Kaye Emerson (Tommy), two sisters, Emma Ruth Taylor and Patricia Holland; two grandchildren, Amber Tharpe and Lee Tharpe (Landry) and one great granddaughter Marlee Emerson. He also loved and cherished his numerous nieces and nephews and brothers-in-law, Herman McWaters (Joan), Dwight McWaters, Rick McWaters (Sarah) and sisters-in-law, Jeanette Peeler, June Peeler, Jean Peeler, Vivian Peeler, Faye Waters (Jerry), and Audrey McWaters.Funeral services will be 11 a.m. CST Saturday, July 28, 2018 at James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel in Marianna, FL. Interment will follow at 2 p.m. EST at Flat Creek Church Cemetery in Chattahoochee, FL with James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing.The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. CST, Saturday, July 28, 2018 until the service at James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel in Marianna.If desired, contributions in honor of Cotton may be made to Big Bend Hospice in Tallahassee or a Hospice in your local area.
