DOTHAN, AL-  For the 7th consecutive year, the Kiwanis Club of Dothan will host the largest fireworks display and patriotic celebration on the 4th of July in the Wiregrass. This year’s celebration will again be at the amphitheater at Center Stage Alabama, and will include family entertainment and fun for all ages.

There will be a car show in the parking lot from 9:00 am- 2:00 pm hosted by the New South Cruisers. Antique and classic cars from all eras will be showcased. Collectors who would like to enter their car in the show may do so by calling David Plunkett at (334) 701-4338.

The gates to the amphitheater will open at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, July 4th, and live entertainment will be on the stage all day long.  Bands from around the region will be performing before the headline concert at 7:30 pm. Some of the acts featured include Los Locos, Southern Chain Gang, The Eastwood Drive Band, and Once over Twice.  Nationally acclaimed recording artists and country music legends, Shenandoah will then take the stage for a 90-minute concert beginning at 7:30. After their last song, a spectacular fireworks display will fill the night sky. Food, drinks and merchandise vendors will be on hand for shopping and dining needs from 2-10 pm.

Throughout the day, there will also be other entertainment for families. Five Star Credit Union has graciously donated funding to bring the Reptile Discovery Show to the Family 4th Celebration. This unique reptile show features huge pythons, tortoises, iguanas and other reptiles not normally seen in Alabama. Bring your camera- you can take your photo with the “stars” of the show afterwards!

Through the support of the Wiregrass Electric Co-Op, there will be free waterslides for children to enjoy during the hot afternoon hours. The waterslides will be in operation from 2pm- 7pm, and all kids are urged to bring a swimsuit, sunscreen and a towel to get the most out of the multiple slides.

Bell Farms will again provide the free watermelons for the 6:00 pm watermelon-eating contest. Anyone interested in participating in the watermelon eating contest is asked to register between 2:00 pm and 5:30 pm at the Bell Farms watermelon booth at the Family 4th Celebration to secure a spot in the event. There is no cost to participate.

Finally, the highlight of the 4th of July is the spectacular fireworks display sponsored by HEDA (Houston Economic Development Association). HEDA and Center Stage have partnered to provide the fireworks and facility for the Kiwanis Club of Dothan to put on the Family 4th Celebration. Without HEDA’s generosity and community support, the event would not be possible. Wiregrass Pyrotechnics is shooting this year’s show, and it is expected to begin shortly after 9:00 pm and last 15 minutes.

Tickets for the event are $6 per person through June 30th, and then go up to $10 in July. Tickets can be purchased at area Herndon Shell stations and Super-C Convenience stores as well as online at www.Family4thCelebration.com For more information about the event, please call The Main Event at (334) 699-1475 or contact any member of the Kiwanis Club of Dothan.
