Callie Jernigan is a local young lady who has been involved in the horse community in Southeast Alabama for many years. Callie has been diagnosed with Aplastic Anemia. Aplastic anemia (AA) is a disease in which the bone marrow,& the blood stem cells that reside there, are damaged. This causes a deficiency of all 3 blood cell types(pancytopenia):red blood cells(anemia),white blood cells(leukopenia),& platelets(thrombocytopenia). Callie has a donor, the donor is her sister Caitlin. Callie & Caitlin are headed to Birmingham this week to get started on Callie’s treatment.
