The Wiregrass Tobacco Free Coalition is highlighting the harmful effects of smokeless tobacco during Through With Chew Week February 17 - 23.Among Alabama adults, almost 8 percent currently use smokeless tobacco. For teenagers, the number is 19 percent. For Through With Chew Week and the Great American Spit Out on Thursday, smokeless tobacco product users are encouraged to quit for at least one day. To help with quitting, the Alabama Tobacco Quitline is available at 1-800-Quit-Now. The free telephone-ba sed tobacco cessation service provides free counseling and two weeks of free nicotine patches to callers who begin the telephone counseling and are medically eligible. The Alabama Tobacco Quitline – 1-800-784-8669 – is available Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m to 5:30 p.m. Quitline services are also available at www.alabamaquitnow.com.For more information, please contact the Wiregrass Tobacco-Free Coalition at 334-699-2813.
