In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Kate’s memory to Grandview Baptist Church Building Fund, 2400 Forrester Rd, Dothan, AL 36301, or to your favorite charity.

Kate was born November 23, 1931, to Russell E and Lillie Belle (Bowden) Watson in Headland, AL. As a small child, Kate remembered walking with her mother to Marianna from Dothan. The family eventually relocated to Altha, FL where she attended school. After graduation, Kate moved to Columbus, GA and was a stenographer for Southern Trucking Company. On Christmas Day in 1951, Kate met her future husband, a soldier named Cully Jones, during a bus ride from Marianna back to Columbus. She had allowed him to sit next to her during the trip. Five months later they were married… a loving marriage that lasted 66 years. When Cully left the military in June 1952, they settled down in Dothan. Kate began working at Warner’s Factory in 1958. During her employment, she was promoted to a management position prior to retirement in 1994.

A strong woman, Kate was never shy to speak her mind or to let you know what she did or did not like. As it says in Proverbs 31:25-26, “She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come. She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue.” Kate loved the Lord Jesus and, in May 1959, was baptized at Grandview Baptist Church. A faithful churchgoer, she was a member of the Caraway Class and attended worship service regularly until health issues interfered.

Kate also enjoyed sharing how proud of and how much she loved her family. She told many of her family members that she wanted to live longer than her mother. Well, Kate Jones, you accomplished that goal!

A beloved and caring wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and friend, Kate will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. She was predeceased by her parents, husband Cully, daughter Laura Knowles; grandson Sam Crowell Jones, and siblings Doyle Watson, Lloyd Watson, and Harriet (Hattie Mae) Sutton.

Kate is survived by her son Danny Jones (Kelly Crowell), Ashford, AL; grandchildren Carie Peeples (Matt), Odenville, AL, Joshua Jones (Stacey Tarnowski-Jones), Salem, AL, and Jack Jones, Ashford, AL; great grandchildren Rowan and Hayden Dunn, Gavin, Grayson and Reid Peeples, Alex Tarnowski, and Laura Tarnowski-Jones; son-in-law Ed Knowles (Sonya); sister Janice Sanders (David). She is also survived by her husband’s family members, several beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, family friends and former co-workers.

Pallbearers will be: Joshua Jones, Jack Jones, Hayden Dunn, Rowan Dunn, Gavin Peeples and Alex Tarnowski.

Glover Funeral Home and Crematory has been entrusted with the arrangements.
