Mamie Jo Amberson Obituary
Mamie Jo Amberson, affectionately known as Jo to her friends and family, passed away peacefully on December 27, 2024, in Dothan, Alabama. Born on July 10, 1940, Jo lived a full and vibrant life characterized by her loving, kind, and generous spirit.
Jo was a devoted wife to her husband of 59 years, Jack Amberson, and a nurturing mother to her son, the late Michael Andrew Amberson, and her daughter, Dana Lemons (Lee). Her warmth and love extended to her granddaughter, Amber Nunziato (Josh), and her great-granddaughter, Georgia Nunziato, who will miss her dearly. Jo was the last surviving sibling of her family, preceded in death by her parents, Tilford Chamblee and Edith Buckner Chamblee, her son, Michael, and her 11 siblings. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, William “Bill” Amberson.
Jo’s professional life was marked by 23 years of dedicated service at Ansell, from which she retired. Her commitment to her community was evident through her role as a charter member of Harvest Church. Jo’s passions included listening to Gospel music, enjoying rounds of golf, participating in aerobics, and tending to her garden. She was an exemplary partner to Jack since their marriage on November 20, 1965, and her love for her family was unparalleled.
Jo’s legacy is one of unwavering love and kindness, and her memory will be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her life was a testament to the joy and beauty that generosity of spirit can bring to the world.
A private memorial service to celebrate the life of Jo will be held at a later date.
