PEACHTREE CITY, GEORGIA. . .Margaret Sowell Pettis, a resident of Peachtree City, Georgia, passed away early Saturday morning, September 19, 2026, in Arbor Terrace, Peachtree City. She was 93.
A private graveside service for the family will be held at a later date in the Abbeville Memorial Cemetery, Abbeville, Alabama, with Pastor Randy Greene officiating. Holman-Abbeville Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Pettis was born and raised in Henry County, near Abbeville, Alabama, daughter of the late William Leonard Sowell and Elma Bethune Sowell. She was a graduate of Abbeville High School and received a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Auburn University. Mrs. Pettis was an Adult Education Teacher and also taught Court Reporting. In later years, she retired from Southern Bell. Mrs. Pettis was a member of Fayetteville First Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, David Clayton Pettis, Sr., a sister, Merle Sowell Armstrong and a beloved grandson, Nicholas “Nick” Scott Pettis.
Surviving relatives include her sons, David C. Pettis, Jr. (Judy), Covington, GA; William C. Pettis (Lyndel), Brooks, GA; and Phillip P. Pettis, Charleston, SC; grandchildren, Christopher Pettis (Rachel), Lindsey Pettis and Morgan Pettis; step-grandsons, Randy Peters (Nicole) and Andy Peters (Stephanie); a great-granddaughter, Abby Pettis; other surviving relatives include, Clay Bethune, Alester Spears and several nieces and nephews.
