HEADLAND. . .Marion Grady McDaniel, age 86, a resident of Headland, Alabama, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday afternoon, March 3, 2025, surrounded by the people whom he loved the most.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1:30 P.M. Wednesday, March 5, 2025, in the Headland Methodist Church with Pastor Clay Lassiter and Reverend Misty Barrett officiating and a eulogy to be given by Bill Barnes. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 1:30 P.M. Wednesday in the Headland Methodist Church Family Life Center. Holman-Headland Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Headland Methodist Church Building Fund, 103 West King Street, Headland, AL 36345.
Grady McDaniel was born and raised in Cottonwood, Alabama son of the late Charles Victor McDaniel and Annie Belle Gillespie McDaniel. He attended Ashford High School where he played football and graduated in the year of 1956. Upon graduation from high school, Grady enlisted in the U. S. Air Force and was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant in 1966. He served during the Vietnam War era and was awarded the Air Force Longevity Service Award (AFLSA) with one Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster. While in the military and after returning to civilian life, he attended college and graduated from Troy State University with a B.S. Degree in Accounting. Grady was employed by Faulkner Construction Company from 1969 until 1997 where he retired as a Partner and Chief Financial Officer. He lived in Rehobeth, Alabama before moving to Headland, Alabama in 1998. Grady was a former member of the Piney Grove Methodist Church and the Dothan Exchange Club. He served as National Director of the Alabama Associated General Contractors for many years where he represented the commercial construction industry of Alabama at the national level. As a member of the Headland Methodist Church, he served as Chairman of the Building Committee over the construction of the Family Life Building. Grady was also active in other church and community activities in and around Headland. Grady was preceded in death by his late wife, the mother of his children, Annie Laura Shiver McDaniel and a brother, Charles McDaniel.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Judy Phillips McDaniel, their dog Bentley; three sons, Tony McDaniel, Jeff McDaniel (Angie), and Greg McDaniel, all of Dothan; step-children, Phillip Smith (Linda), Niceville, FL; and Nikki Smith, Headland; a sister, Ann Hall (Billy Max), Dothan; a special granddaughter that Grady and Judy raised as their own, Krista McDaniel Messer (Adam), and other grandchildren, Todd McDaniel, Kyle McDaniel (Megan), McKenzie McDaniel and Callie Smith; nine great-grandchildren. We want to extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone involved in his care for his final months. He is now in peace, resting in heaven, telling the stories of his life to the angels themselves.
