Mrs. MarkAnn (Freeman) Stanford, 74, a resident of Dothan, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, at Extendicare.

A private family graveside service will be held at a later date.

Mrs. MarkAnn was born July 10, 1951, in Bainbridge, Georgia to the late Judson Lee & Mary Tomlinson Freeman. As a young girl, her family moved to Houston County and was later a graduate of Dothan High School. Following high school, she attended The University of Alabama where she earned her bachelor’s degree in education and completed her master’s degree from Troy University of Dothan. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church of Dothan. MarkAnn will be remembered for her deep faith, loving spirit, and servant’s heart. She modeled care and compassion for her children and considered her greatest accomplishment to be giving them a strong Christian foundation. An avid reader and constant encourager, she loved her children and grandchildren deeply. Her legacy of faith, kindness, and love will live on through all who knew her.

She is preceded in death by her parents; and her sister, Mary Jan Freeman.

She is survived by her three children, Neal Stanford (Tami) of Dothan, Jenny Williams (John) of Phenix City, and Jami Sims (Brad) of Oregon; her 12 grandchildren, Judson Stanford, Mary Grace Stanford, Abigail Renteria (Alvin), Caroline Mateos (Jerry), Madelyn Parsons, James Sims, Sydney Wardwell (Scott); Riley, Sara Joy Grove (Logan), Bo Sims, Carrie Sims, and Joel Sims; five great-grandchildren, Westin Glidewell, Sophia Mateos, Ezequiel Renteria, Simon Renteria, and Noah Wardwell; cousins Diane Vaughn, Julie McWaters, Steve Tomlinson, and Mark Paul Freeman.

The family would like to express their gratitude and appreciation to the nurses and staff of Extendicare & Gentiva Hospice for the love and care shown to their loved one during this very difficult time.
