Matthew Christopher Keel

Matthew Christopher Keel, age 51, a resident of Dothan, AL, passed away on Friday, October 16th, 2026, at Flowers Hospital. The funeral will be held at First United Methodist Church of Dothan in the Fellowship Hall on Saturday, November 21st, at 10 AM, followed by visitation and sharing time.

Matthew was born in Dothan on July 20th, 1975, and was the son of Eddy B Keel and Mary Kate Tackett Keel. He was a graduate of Northview High School, class of 1993, and received his bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Troy University in Dothan. He worked in the hospitality industry.

Matthew was a natural athlete who could throw a mean curveball and hit a baseball anywhere he wanted on the field. He was equally adept on basketball court. Though he did not play golf as often as he liked, he could shoot a round in the 80s with little effort. Matthew was also a great lover of music who often shared songs with friends and family via text and social media. He had a big heart, was quick to express love and affection for family and friends and will leave a big hole in the lives of those who loved him.

He was preceded in death by his father, Eddy Keel; paternal grandparents, Leroy and Mary Keel; maternal grandparents, William and Gladys Tackett; and his niece, Hope Keel.

Survivors include his mother, Mary Kate Keel of Dothan; two brothers, Jason Keel (Abbie) of Woodstock, GA, and Nicholas Keel (Jeanette Reynolds) of St. Louis, MO; fiancée, Mitzi Bowen of Dothan; nieces and nephews, Ava Keel, Hannah Paez (Jesse), Owen Keel, and Bennett Keel; as well as aunts and cousins.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to The Harbor in Dothan.

Glover Funeral Home and Crematory has been entrusted with the arrangements.
