Michael Gene Turvin, a beloved father, brother, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 19, 2025, in his hometown of Dothan, Alabama, after a courageous battle with an extended illness. Born on March 6, 1962, Michael lived a life filled with love, laughter, and a profound impact on those fortunate enough to know him.
Michael was the cherished son of Limmie Gene Turvin and Barbara Joyce Butler Turvin. He was preceded in death by his father, Limmie Gene Turvin, his brother Donald Wayne Turvin, his sister Joyce Sellers, and his son-in-law Omar Shabazz. These losses were deeply felt, yet Michael carried their memories with him, honoring their legacies in his everyday life.
Throughout his life, Michael was a devoted family man, leaving behind a loving legacy. He is survived by his daughters, Karri (married to Omar Shabazz) and Kaci (married to Jermayn Douglas), and his son, Blake Turvin. He was a proud grandfather to Jayce (and ToShonna Murry) Turvin, Jakobe Danzy, Parris Danzy, Kyron Danzy, and Kalani, as well as a great-grandfather to little Ivy Nicole Turvin. Michael also embraced his “bonus children,” Meagan Childress and Justin Agawin, with open arms. His family was his pride and joy, and he often spoke of how much he loved and cherished each and every one of them.
Michael’s passion for life was evident in everything he did. He shared a strong bond with his siblings: brother Rodney Turvin sister Pam (and Tim) Wright, brother Tony (and Terri) Turvin, brother Scott (and Tonja) Turvin, and sister Regina Denise Richardson. Together, they created a tapestry of memories woven with love, support, and endless laughter. Michael’s mother, Barbara Joyce Turvin, survives him as well, carrying the warmth of his spirit in her heart.
Professionally, Michael was known for his hard work and dedication at Scott Turvin Construction, where he put his skills and knowledge to good use. He was a man who believed in the value of hard work, but he never lost sight of the importance of enjoying life and having fun.
Michael was not only a skilled worker but also a passionate hobbyist. He was an avid arrowhead collector, a lover of mud-bogging, and an enthusiastic supporter of Alabama football. His laughter was contagious; he was a true jokester with a heart of gold who found joy in making others smile. Michael had a special affinity for children, always treating them with kindness and engaging them with a playful spirit.
The legacy of Michael Gene Turvin is one of love, resilience, and treasured memories. His family and friends will forever remember him for his infectious laughter, unwavering support, and his ability to bring joy to any situation. He left an indelible mark on the hearts of everyone he encountered, and his memory will live on through the stories shared and the love he imparted.
A celebration of Michael’s life will be held on 2:00 p.m., Sunday July 27th at Friendship Assembly of God, Taylor, AL, where friends and family will gather to honor his memory and the joyful moments they shared. In this time of grief, let us remember the light that Michael brought into our lives, and may we carry his spirit with us always. Rest in peace, Michael. You will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
