James Beamon Sims, 87, of Dothan, passed away peacefully on April 26, 2025 in Graceville, Florida.

Beamon was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend whose life was full of hard work, laughter, and love. After attending school in Opelika, Alabama, he proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy for four years. Following his service, Beamon dedicated over 25 years of his career to Lance, Inc.  After retirement he enjoyed working part time through a company that allowed him to work at Sony helping maintain the grounds and other businesses throughout Dothan.

A man of many talents, Beamon enjoyed woodworking, gardening, and fishing, but nothing brought him greater joy than spending time with his family. Known for his sharp wit and playful spirit, he especially loved teasing those he loved most — often with a smile and his weekly margarita in hand.

Beamon is survived by his loving wife, Patricia Richardson Sims; his daughters, Caramon Brightwell (John), Renae Sims, and Heather Hobbs (Johnnie); his grandchildren, Ty Edwards and Tiffanei Bush and her family; his sister, Jeannette Teeple; sisters in love, Sefi Richardson and Debbie Moody.  Known by “Uncle B’ to many beloved nieces, nephews and many friends.  His “special” daughters, Ronda Eberhart and Amber Hancock and neighborhood son, Diggy Moss.

He was preceded in death by his father, James Tyler Sims; his mother, Ruby Jewel Sims; and his sister, Joyce Gilmore.

Beamon’s’ love, laughter, and kindness will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

The services will be held at Ward Wilson Funeral Home, 2414 Hartford Hwy, Dothan, Al, 36305 on Thursday, May 1st, 2025.  The visitation for family and friends will be at 3:00 – 4:00 pm and the celebration of life will begin at 4:00 pm.  Immediately following the service friends and family are welcome at the residence of Patricia Sims.
