Mr. Durwood Gerald Hartzog, age 80, of Midland City, passed away Monday, June 30, 2025 surrounded by his family.
Born June 8, 1945 in Midland City to the late Roscoe “Jack” Hartzog and Hildred Hawkins Tucker Hartzog, Gerald served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He enjoyed being outdoors, whether it be fishing or jogging. Gerald had a musical gift in playing the guitar but nothing beat those fall Saturdays watching the Alabama Crimson Tide play football.
In addition to his parents, Gerald was preceded in death by his infant son, Gerald Shane Hartzog.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Linda Spivey Hartzog; his daughters, Hilda June Hartzog-Eppard and Linda Kay Hogue-Bailey; his son, Charles Ramon Hogue; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; his sister, Betty Barrett; a special cousin, DeLaine Hawkins Spencer and numerous other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2 PM, Wednesday, July 2, 2025 from the Ward Wilson Funeral Home with Pastor Chuck Longshore officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 PM until 2 PM, prior to the service at the funeral home.
