JL Hughes, a resident of Dothan, died Thursday, October 2, 2025 at his residence. He was 90.
Funeral services for JL will be held at 11 AM Monday, October 6, 2025 in Clearman Chapel at Southern Heritage with Brother Billy Rich officiating. Burial will follow at Memphis Baptist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10 AM until 10:45 AM Monday prior to the service at the funeral home.
JL was born January 7, 1935 in Dale County, Alabama to the late Travis and Ida Lee Hughes. He was raised in Dothan in a farming family and later moved to Auburndale, Florida where he was a Foreman in the Paving business. JL had a great sense of humor and loved a good practical joke and enjoyed fishing. He was a member of Memphis Baptist Church.
JL is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Carleene Hughes; two sisters and four brothers.
Survivors include his daughter, Rhonda Jowers; granddaughter, Chistina Jones (Mike); grandchildren, Ashton and Adyson Jones; sister, Ann Stewart (Wesley), Nell Harrell and sisters in law, Betty Joyce Gunter, Era Jo Holmes and Katie Hughes.
