Mr. Thurman Lawrence Carroll, Sr., 86, of Malvern, went to be with his Lord on Friday, August 21, 2026, passing away peacefully at his home.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, in the chapel of Sorrells Funeral Home in Slocomb, with Reverend Hosea Parker officiating. Interment will follow in Memory Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
Thurman was born February 7, 1940, in Hartford, Alabama, to the late Homer and Eva Ziehler Carroll. In his earlier years, he worked at Colonial Baking Company before being drafted into the United States Army. He proudly served his country for two years and was honorably discharged. Following his military service, Thurman continued a life of service to others. He proudly served with the Dothan Police Department for 21 years before retiring. He was a dedicated public servant and a man of strong character who devoted his life to serving and protecting others. Thurman was a faithful servant of Christ and a member of Malvern Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. His faith was an important part of his life, and he sought to serve both his Lord and his community with humility and dedication. Above all, Thurman was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He adored his family and especially cherished the time he spent with his children and grandchildren. His kindness, dedication, and love for those around him touched the lives of many. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, former colleagues, church family, and the entire community he faithfully served.
In addition to his parents, Thurman was preceded in death by his precious daughter, Deborah “Debbie” Bass; brothers: Robert Carroll, and Richard Carroll.
He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Reeder Carroll; three sons, Thurman Lawrence Carroll, Jr., Charles Edward Carroll (Niki), and Jerry Alan Carroll (Nicole); eight grandchildren: Lauren Ingram (Tucker), Sarah Beth Sides (Bobby), Carroll Ann Losh (Calvin), Alex Bass, Levi Carroll (Faith Ann), Colby Carroll, Lillian Carroll, and Hudson Carroll; several great grandchildren; siblings: Nancy Prine, and John Carroll (Evelyn); and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
