Mrs. Elizabeth “Lee” Wilson Oppert, age 90, transitioned to her heavenly home in the very early hours of February 24, 2025 at Wesley Place on Honeysuckle. She was a lifelong resident of Dothan, AL.
Lee was born December 2, 1934 in Dothan to John T. Trawick and Elizabeth Lee Andress Trawick. A few years later Elizabeth Andress married Luther Wilson and he became “Daddy” to Lee. As a child she enjoyed sitting under a giant oak tree reading her books. Her love for reading would continue long into her adult years. Lee grew into a teenager and graduated in 1953 from Dothan High School. During this time she would go on a blind date with Carlos Oppert. She would go on to marry and stay married for seventy-two years, until her last breath in this world. In her adult years Lee ran an in-home daycare for fifteen years where countless children would affectionally know her as “LeeLee”. When she wasn’t caring for children, Lee was utilizing her green thumb to care for a variety of southern plants including camellias, azaleas, and fragrant gardenias that she would cut to display in crystal bowls around her home. She even had heirloom daylillies that had been passed on to her from her very own mother’s garden that continued to thrive in her care. Lee was passionate about Jesus, the Bible, and was a faithful member to Harvest church.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her son, Charles Carlos Oppert Jr.
Survivors include her husband, Charles Carlos Oppert Sr. of Dothan; daughter Betty Cannon (Terry) of Montgomery, AL; son John Wilson Oppert (Jessica) of Taylor, AL; four grandchildren, Ezekiel John and Isaiah David Oppert both of Taylor, AL and Anissa Rudd (Ben) of Wetumpka, AL and Allen Cannon (Kassie) of Tallassee, AL; two great-grandchildren, Ella Grace Wooten of Glenwood Springs, CO and John Franklin Cannon of Tallassee, AL; one sister Anne Vallette (Lewis) of Montgomery, TX; and several nieces and nephews.
The family of Lee would like to extend their sincerest thanks and appreciation for the staff at Wesley Place on Honeysuckle. They provided loving and selfless care to Lee in her final years and some became like family. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to:
