Mrs. Jane Custis Lilley Schauble, a woman who loved life, laughter, dancing, and above all, her family, passed away peacefully at her home on August 27, 2026, at the age of 90, surrounded by her family and friends who loved her dearly.
A Memorial Service will be held for Mrs. Schauble 12:00 Noon Saturday, September 5, 2026, in the Chapel of Holman Funeral Home in Ozark with Reverend Dr. Jason Thrower officiating, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home in Ozark Saturday from 11:00 A.M. until service time.
Born on December 23, 1935, in Washington, North Carolina to the late Alma Jackson Lilley and Grover Lilley, Jane lived a life filled with love, adventure, family, and cherished memories. She was a woman with a wonderful zest for life and a personality that could light up the room. She never met a stranger and had a way of making the people around her feel special. She was the youngest of six daughters.
Jane was married for 64 years to the love of her life, Dr. Carl E. Schauble. Their marriage was a beautiful testament to enduring love, companionship, and devotion. Together, they built a family and a lifetime of memories that will continue to be treasured by all who knew them.
Jane was a devoted mother to Chris Schauble of Ozark, Alabama and Edie Schauble Pickett of Birmingham, Alabama, and a loving stepmother to Greg Schauble (Beth), Jeff Schauble, and Carl Schauble (Kim), all of North Carolina.
When asked about what she did or where she worked, Jane would unhesitatingly answer that she was a homemaker and mother. Her greatest joy was her family, and she cherished every moment spent with her husband, children, grandchildren, and loved ones. She was the proud grandmother of 11 grandchildren: Robbie, Haley, and Carl Pickett; and Kipp, Cody, Cara, Jessica, Jeffrey, Justin, Wesley, and Greg Schauble and 2 great grandchildren.
Jane had a special place in her heart for Robert Forehand, who was like a son to her. She loved and deeply appreciated Robert for the kindness, companionship, and love he gave her and the family. Robert was there to help her husband Carl care for Jane during her final days at home, providing comfort and support when it was needed most. His devotion meant so much to Jane and her family, and they will always be grateful for the love he showed them all.
Jane also held a special place in her heart for her favorite nephew, Brent Clevenger, of whom she was immensely proud. She took great joy in watching Brent grow and build his life, and she treasured the special bond they shared. Her love and pride for him was a reflection of the deep affection she had for her extended family.
Jane was also a woman who believed in helping others and giving back to the community she loved. She was a devoted member of the First United Methodist Church of Ozark, where she generously gave her time through volunteer work and was an active member of the Suzanne Johnson Circle. She also enjoyed volunteering with the Friends of the Library and sharing her time and talents with several nursing and assisted living homes to support her community and the things she cared about.
Jane enjoyed the simple pleasures that made life special. She loved to cook and share meals with those she loved, and she especially enjoyed ballroom dancing. She had a particular fondness for cats and was never far from one of her beloved feline companions. But of all the things she loved, nothing compared to her family. They were her greatest treasure and the center of her world.
Jane will be remembered for her open-house Christmas parties, her vibrant spirit, her warmth, her love of life and the joy she brought to those around her. Her family and friends will forever cherish the laughter, stories, food, dances, and countless moments they shared with her.
Though she will be deeply missed, Jane leaves behind a legacy of love and memories that will live on through her devoted husband, children, grandchildren, extended family, and all those fortunate enough to have known her. She lived life fully, loved deeply, and left the world a little brighter simply by being in it.
