Mrs. Katie Taylor Streit, a resident of Ozark, Alabama, died Friday May 1, 2026, in Bonifay Nursing and Rehab Center in Bonifay Florida. She was 86 years old.
Funeral services for Mrs. Streit will be 11:00 A.M. Thursday, May 7, 2026, in the Chapel of Holman Funeral Home in Ozark with Reverend Mike Whitman officiating. Interment will follow in Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home in Ozark Thursday from 10:00 A.M. until service time.
Mrs. Katie Taylor Streit known as “Mama Katie” was born June 24,1939 in Ozark, Alabama to the late Ervin Huey Taylor and Georgia Mae Wallace Taylor. Mrs. Streit obtained her nursing degree with Troy State University on June 7, 1985. She helped serve the City of Montgomery with the local ambulance service and she worked at St. Margaret’s Hospital. She and her husband retired and moved to Ozark in 1991 to be closer to family. Mrs. Streit enjoyed gardening, pampering her pets, and reading country-western books. Mrs. Streit was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 24 years, O.L. Streit and her son, Theldon Byrd.
Mrs. Streit is survived by her daughter-in-law, Ann Byrd; two grandchildren, Tracy Bowman (Jamie) and Ashley Ledbetter (Kevin); and three great grandchildren, Hunter Bowman, Kylie Bowman, and Brady Ledbetter.
