Obituary from Holman Funeral Home of Ozark – Ozark, Alabama

Mrs. Mary Roberts Herring, a resident of Skipperville, passed away Tuesday, June 2, 2026, in Ozark Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was 93 years old.

Funeral services for Mrs. Herring will be graveside 10:00 A.M. Thursday, June 4, 2026, in Peniel Baptist Church Cemetery with Reverend Kenneth Hagler officiating. Interment will follow, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing.

Mrs. Herring was born April 29, 1933 in Barbour County, Alabama to the late Tom and Myrtle Roberts. Mary was a kind-hearted and loving woman. She was an excellent cook who, as a girl, was tasked with taking time away from the cotton patch so that she could prepare dinner for her large family. Her fried chicken, steaks and pork were legendary.  Her gravies could make any meal better, and her chicken and rice was so good that you were tempted to empty the entire bowl. Her cakes, pies and puddings (especially huckleberry) brought great happiness to her friends and family.  She utilized her culinary gifts by working for many years in the lunchroom at G. W. Long School where she was a very conscientious employee.  As talented a cook as she was, Mary’s greatest gift was her Christian faith which she passed down to her son. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Herring; her sister, Miriam  Roberts; and four brothers, Delmar Roberts, Olin Durrel Roberts, Harold Roberts and Bennie Roberts.

She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Ricky and Nancy Herring; and one grandson, Taylor Herring.

The family would like to express their deepest and most heartfelt thanks to the staffs of Ozark Health and Rehabilitation and Gentiva Hospice. Their kindness, professionalism and assistance during this very difficult time will always be remembered and appreciated by the Herring family.
