Mrs. Carlson was born February 15, 1927, in Brooklyn, New York to the late John Peter Shott and Letitia Brophy Shott. Pat enjoyed her life in Ozark with her beloved late husband Roy for 65 years after many military reassignments. They loved Ozark from the start and made many lifetime friends here. They enjoyed golf and Mom had three holes in one! They enjoyed bowling, card games and extensive worldwide traveling during their 68 years together. Additionally, she was a super Alabama fan (Roll Tide!) and loved a good mystery book and could often be found at her local library where they knew her quite well.
Pat loved dogs but was mostly a cat person and it was noticed that as each of her eight kids grew up and left the house, a replacement cat appeared. She was also a very strong woman. She made life look easy and anyone that’s been in the military service knows that life as a military wife and mother is not so easy all the time, but she rarely complained and handled life’s challenges effortlessly and with ease. She was a great role model for all her kids. St. John Catholic Church was a big part of her life. She loved the church as well as everyone in it. She was a very devoted Catholic and would always seek out the local Catholic church when traveling. She was a treasure to those who knew her and will be deeply missed.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Roy F. Carlson, son Peter Eric Carlson, three sons-in-law Joseph Gorecki, Lawrence Falk, and Donald McCaghren, her sister Constance Amodeo Dougherty and niece Valerie Amodeo.
She is survived by her children. Michael R. Carlson, Jimmy P. Carlson (Alicia), Barbara M. Gorecki, Janice R. Nolan (Michael), Gary E. Carlson, KC Falk, Laura McCaghren as well as her seven grandchildren Erin, Eric, Tracy, Scott, Jenna, Caroline, and Chelsea; her 12.5 great-grandchildren, one is due in August, as well as her niece, Andrea Amodeo Vickery, her favorite nephew, Frank Amodeo, her cousin Mary Doherty and her three children Jackie, Danny and Jeanine, in addition to two special bonus daughters, Molly McManus and Sheryl Peavy; and a very special person who always made Mom her favorite apple pies, Debbie Amodeo who all loved her dearly.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Ozark-Dale County Humane Society, PO Box 2502, Ozark, Alabama 36361 or via PayPal.
