Mrs. Sheila Braswell Farmer, a loving wife, mother and granny to many, passed away on June 23, 2026, at the age of 72. Born on February 2, 1954, Sheila leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and devotion that will be treasured by all who knew her. Her life was centered around her family, and she dedicated herself wholeheartedly to caring for those she loved. Known for her selfless heart, strong spirit, and unwavering devotion, Sheila touched countless lives with her kindness and generosity.
She was preceded in death by her father, Hayward Braswell, and her sister, Carolyn Burnsed.
Sheila is survived by her devoted spouse of 54 years, Max Farmer of Cowarts, Alabama; her mother, Gayvon Tucker of Dothan, Alabama; her five cherished children, Marcus Farmer of Cowarts, Alabama, Angel Jenkins (DJ) of Webb, Alabama, Amy Mock (Jim) of Kinsey, Alabama, Amanda Tyson (Howard) of Ashford, Alabama, and Kolten Zachary of Cowarts, Alabama; her brothers, Lamar Braswell (Rhonda) of Columbia, Alabama, Bobby Braswell (Sheree) of Cowarts, Alabama, Gary Braswell (Liz) of Headland, Alabama, and Buddy Braswell (Barbara) of Dothan, Alabama; her beloved grandchildren, Tyler Farmer (Tiffany) of Pansey, Alabama, Hunter Whitehurst (Sam) of Kinsey, Alabama, Bailey Smeby (Brandon) of Ashford, Alabama, Shalie Hughes (Dustin) of Cowarts, Alabama, Harrison Whitehurst (Lily-Marie) of Ashford, Alabama, Kimber Zachary of Cowarts, Alabama and Tera Justice (Noah) of Samson, Alabama; several treasured great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews who will cherish her memory.
A devoted homemaker, Sheila found her greatest joy in caring for her family and creating a warm, welcoming home. She lovingly prepared four-course meals each night and was known for her big Sunday breakfasts that could feed an army, if anyone left hungry, it was their own fault. Her kitchen was the heart of the home, where laughter was shared, stories were told, and lasting memories were made.
Sheila and Max’s greatest happiness came from having their family gathered around them. Their home was a place of comfort, refuge, and love, always open to those closest to them. They built a large home so their family would always have a place to call home.
Lovable, feisty, and never one to hold back, Sheila had a personality that filled every room she entered. Her strong will and spirited nature were matched only by her deep love and fierce devotion to her family. She was protective, supportive, and always willing to help anyone in need.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, June 26, 2026, at Ward Wilson Funeral Home with Reverend Judy Dyson officiating. Burial will follow in Crestlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 11:00 a.m. until service time.
