Wynell Skinner Leonard, age 88, of Dothan, passed away Thursday, January 23, 2025.

Born December 13, 1936 in Scottsboro, Alabama to the late Alva Skinner and Nellie Nall Skinner, Wynell grew up in Florala, Alabama with friends and cousins she would be close to for life. She graduated from Florala High School in 1955 and has been a resident of Dothan for over sixty years.

Wynell was married to her husband, Thomas Foster Leonard for fifty-five years prior to his death. She loved him and their family with her whole heart. She loved to cook for her family creating cherished memories not only for her but her family too. Wynell and her husband worked together for many years in construction and real estate companies which they owned. After her husband’s death she enjoyed traveling with the church groups to places she had never been including her dream trip to Ireland.

Wynell was a long-time devoted member of Calvary Baptist Church, teaching Sunday School for over twenty years of elementary school children at Calvary and was active in many other church activities. She especially enjoyed singing in the choir, as well as singing solos and in small groups with her close friends at churches and nursing homes in the Dothan area.

In addition to her parents, Wynell was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Foster Leonard and her granddaughter, April Smith.

Wynell is survived by her brother Franklin Skinner of Dothan AL, sons, Mike Leonard (Angie) of Dothan AL and Paul Stephen Leonard (Jan Roberts) of Mountain Brook AL; her grandchildren, John Roberts Leonard (Miranda) of Tuscaloosa AL, Julia Alexa Leonard (Ryan Spencer) of Falls Church VA, and Kristen Boutwell of Dothan AL; her great-grandchildren, Parker Boutwell and Easton Michael Wiggins; numerous other relatives and friends.

Wynell was a devoted follower of Jesus who she loved with her whole heart. Her family and friends rejoice that she is now in heaven with loved ones and in no more pain and suffering. The family wishes to thank friends and relatives that made special efforts to come see her and send cards to her in the last two years. It did help brighten her days when she could no longer get out due to her health issues.

Funeral services will be held at 2 PM, Saturday, February 1, 2025 at Calvary Baptist Church with Dr. Paul Thompson officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Cemetery with Ward Wilson Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends from 1 PM until 2 PM, Saturday, February 1, 2025 prior to the service at Calvary Baptist Church.
