Obituary from Holman Funeral Home of Ozark – Ozark, Alabama

Ms. Shirley Chancey Bass Yelverton, a resident of Ozark, passed away early Wednesday, September 10, 2025.  She was 80 years old.

Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday, September 13, 2025, in the Chapel of Holman Funeral Home in Ozark with Reverend Edward Douglas officiating. Interment will follow in Pleasant Ridge Methodist Cemetery, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home in Ozark Saturday from 10:00 A.M. until service time.

Ms. Yelverton was born January 8, 1945 in Dale County, Alabama to the late Judge Leslie Chancey and Jessie Myrl Paramore Chancey. She was a native of the Ariton community and was a 1963 graduate of Ariton High School. Shirley was preceded in death by her daughter, Brenda Bass Spicer and brothers, Bobby  Chancey and Purnell Chancey. She devoted many years of her life working at Walmart and in local grocery stores, where her warm smile and kind heart touched countless customers and coworkers. Beyond her work, she found joy in the time spent with her family. Her legacy of love, laughter, and dedication will live on in the hearts of those who knew her.  She is survived by her two sons, Michael Bass of Ozark and Joel Bass of Dothan; five grandchildren, Patrick McDaniel (Ashley) of Ozark, Matthew Bass of Ozark, Courtney Gilmer (Sam) of Ozark, Brannon Bass of Bluffton, SC, and Ethan Spicer of Ozark; siblings, Merle C. Charles of the Arguta Community, Paschal Chancey (Ann) of Dothan, Odell Chancey (Fay) of Valley, and Terry Chancey (Sandra) of Skipperville. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
