Nellie Grace Jackson Lucas, age 91, of Dothan, Alabama, passed away Monday, September 7, 2026, at her home.
Nellie was born November 23, 1934, in Lockhart, Alabama, to the late Fred Jackson and Myrtle Watson Jackson. Throughout her life, she worked several jobs, including Dothan Hose, Globe Motors, Sony, where she worked in Quality Control, and Cloverdale Elementary School.
Nellie lived a full and active life and was known for her athletic spirit. She enjoyed golfing, playing softball, roller skating, and bowling. She and her husband, Ray, also enjoyed participating together in a bowling league.
Golf held a special place in Nellie’s life. She was a member of Dothan National Golf Club for 32 years and a member of the Dothan National Ladies Golf Association for 25 years, where she was honored with a plaque recognizing her dedication. During her years of playing, Nellie won the Ladies Club Championship four times and achieved an impressive four holes-in-one. She played and placed in many tournaments throughout the years alongside her golfing partner, Bea Johnson. The friendships and memories she made on the golf course were very special to her.
Nellie loved spending time with family and friends and especially enjoyed hosting gatherings and cooking for those she loved. She had a caring heart for animals and was particularly fond of rescuing cats. She was an avid Alabama fan and enjoyed keeping up with the news and watching Fox News.
Nellie and her husband, Ray, were members of the Elks Club and Memphis Baptist Church. Above all, she will be remembered as a wonderful mother and a woman who was dearly loved by her family and friends. Her family, friends, and many golfing companions will cherish the wonderful memories she leaves behind.
Nellie was preceded in death by her parents, Fred Jackson and Myrtle Watson Jackson; her beloved husband of 67 years, Ray Lucas; and three brothers, Max Jackson, Don Jackson, and Ray Jackson.
She is survived by her two sons, David Lucas (Marie) and Dennis Lucas; grandchildren, Stormy Renée Wilson, Hayden Arthur Lucas, and Brannon Ray Lucas (Kristin); great-grandchildren, Russia Renée, Kingsley Lucas, and Karas Lucas; special niece, Terry Clark; special friends, Starla Moore and Becky; her longtime golfing partner, Bea Johnson; many dear golfing friends; and numerous other family members and friends.
