
Nicholas John Romano, Jr., of Dothan, passed away peacefully on January 4, 2026, surrounded by family. Born on July 14, 1948, in Dothan, Alabama, Nicholas, known for his skilled hands and strong Christian faith, led a life marked by dedication to his family, his work, and his country.
Nicholas was preceded in death by his parents, Nicholas John Romano, Sr. and Cassie Pate Romano and sons, Yancey Romano and Shane Romano. He is survived by his sister, Linda R. Jones; stepson, Daniel Stephens (Courtney); his grandchildren, Alexis Romano, Cassidy Decker (Bailey), and Peyton Stephens; great-grandchildren, Jacy Reese and Nadia Brown; mother of his children, Sarah Romano; best friend, Bobby Chisholm, and several nieces and nephews.
After attending Wallace Community College, Nicholas embarked on a career as a welder for the Boiler Maker Union, where he dedicated twenty-eight years to building water tanks. His work was not just a job but a craft he honed with precision and pride. Nicholas also served his country with honor in the United States Navy for four years, including during the Vietnam War, a testament to his bravery and patriotism.
A man of faith, Nicholas was a devout Christian who lived his beliefs through his actions and words. He was confident in his journey to a better place, a belief that gave him and those around him great comfort. His love for animals, especially dogs, was well-known and reflected his kind nature.
