Alec Jonathan Thomas, 18, of Pinckard passed away Thursday, November 17, 2011 at a local hospital.

Funeral services will be held 11 am Saturday at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dan Morris and Dr. Jerry Dooling officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 9 am until 11 am Saturday. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Piney Grove United Methodist Church Building Fund, 21 Piney Grove Rd., Rehobeth, AL, 36301.

Alec was born June 4, 1993 in Green Bay, WI and he was attending Huntingdon College as a freshman and has been residing in the Wiregrass since February. He was a very competitive swimmer and cross country runner as well as an avid sports fan. He loved his Green Bay Packers, the University of Alabama Crimson Tide, the University of Wisconsin Badgers, and the Milwaukee Brewers. Alec was an active member of the Piney Grove United Methodist Church Youth Group. Alec was a friend to many, and he treasured his friends more than anything.

Survivors include his father Jonathan W. Thomas and his fiancé Leigh Simpson of Pinckard; his mother Meghan Hawley of Green Bay, WI; his sister Emma Hawley of Green Bay, WI; grandparents, John and Mary Thomas of Dothan, Richard and Colleen Hawley of Green Bay, WI; aunts and uncles, Gregory and Beth Thomas of Mobile, AL, John Hawley of Random Lake, WI; a cousin Meghan Rae Thomas of Thailand; a very special friend Amber Holt of Dothan; several cousins, great aunts and great uncles also survive.

Serving as pallbearers will be Dylan Sollars, Tyler Chaney, Skylar Wideman, Brantley Herman, Nick Powell, and Kenneth Dansfield.
