ABBEVILLE. . .Alex B. Clark, Jr., a resident of Abbeville, died Thursday morning, February 7, 2019, at his home. He was 89.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P. M. Saturday, February 9, 2019, in the First Baptist Church with Reverend Ryan Johnson and Reverend Ray S. Reiley officiating. Graveside services, with military honors, will follow in the Abbeville Pioneer Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00 P.M. Saturday in the First Baptist Church Family Life Building. Holman-Abbeville Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Kindred Hospice, 2740 Headland Avenue, Dothan, AL 36303 or to First Baptist Church of Abbeville, P. O. Box 606, Abbeville, AL 36310.
Mr. Clark was born in Eufaula, son of the late Alex Bowden Clark, Sr. and Mary Brown Clark. He lived in Florida before moving to Abbeville as a child. Mr. Clark served his country in the U. S. Army during the Korean War. He retired as Plant Manager from WestPoint Stevens in Abbeville. Mr. Clark was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Abbeville where he served as a Deacon and taught the Junior Boys Sunday School Class and later the Adult Men’s Sunday School Class. Mr. Clark also served on numerous church committees. He was a former member of the Abbeville Kiwanis Club, American Legion and served on the Board of Directors of the Abbeville Chamber of Commerce. In earlier years, Mr. Clark served on the Abbeville Memorial Library Board. He was an avid fisherman, turkey hunter and gardener. He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Ann Wallace and two brothers, Hunter Clark and Bill Clark.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Ina Gamble Clark; a daughter, Jeanie Jarrett, Headland; a son, Will Clark, Panama City, FL; a brother, Jim (Bobby) Clark (Rita), Abbeville; three grandchildren, Hillary Sisson (Travis), Katie Woodham (Ronnie) and Jennifer McCoy (Justin); five great-grand children, Alex Clark Sisson, Micah Sisson, Hannah Sisson, Charlie Sisson and Dominic Woodham, several nieces and nephews.
