ALFRED L. “DON” WILLIAMS

AVON PARK, FL… Alfred L. “Don” Williams passed away on August 21, 2020 in Sebring, FL. He was 73.

Due to the Covid-19 social distancing and in consideration of health of family members, there will be a private graveside service at Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery. Wright Funeral Home & Crematory is in charge of the arrangements.

Born July 26, 1947 in Highlands County, Don was the son of the late Pearl Williams and the late Earl Williams. Don lived in Avon Park, FL, and was a graduate of Lake Placid High School. Following an outstanding career in civil service as a patrolman with the Florida Highway Patrol, Don had a successful career as a general contractor.

Don will be remembered for his bright smile and dedicated friendship. Don was an avid fisherman, and also enjoyed riding his motorcycle and traveling with his wife.

Don is survived by his wife, Bobbie Williams; his stepson Harry (and wife, Shara) Cunningham; grandchildren Milly and Oliver Cunningham; his sisters Charlotte Matthews and Anita Williams; His sisters-in-law Hayward (and husband, Darbie Merwin) Granberry, Peggy Fike, and Sandra Marotta; and many nieces and nephews and extended family and friends.

Bobbie and Don were great friends long before they were spouses. Together, they enjoyed traveling the country to see family and friends, they loved cooking together (or Bobbie cooking Don’s favorite breakfast and Don making incredible barbecue). One of his favorite things to do was sit and talk with his brother-in-law, Merwin. He loved Hayward’s cooking, Peggy’s visits in Avon Park, and spending time at Sandra’s laughing, talking, and having a good time.

Along with his parents, Don was preceded in death by a sister, Illene Spangler.

Don will be greatly missed by his family and friends, and we know that he’s over us watching and smiling that bright smile.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
