Alma Celestine Boykin Colvin, a strong and compassionate woman, peacefully departed this life on Monday, August 9, 2021 at her home in Dothan. She was predeceased by her husband, Thomas Colvin, Jr.; and her parents, Lessie Bell Lewis of Canton, OH, and Quincy Boykin of Atlanta, GA. Those blessed to cherish memories of her include three children,

Born in Ozark, on June 2, 1933, she was the only child born to the union of the late Lessie Bell (Richardson) Lewis and the late Quincy Boykin. Educated in the public schools of Ozark, AL, Newark, NJ and Canton, OH, she earned degrees from Tuskegee University and Troy University.

On June 1, 1957, she married Thomas Colvin, Jr. To this union three children were born: Leslye, Thomas III, and Angela. A lifelong Christian, she and her family joined St. Columba Catholic Church in the 1960s where she served in several ministries. A tireless volunteer, she was involved with many parish and community efforts. In addition to training countless volunteers for Catholic Social Services, she also served on the Board of the Southeast Alabama Child Advocacy Center, and was an associate of the Missionary Cenacle Apostolate (MCA). There are too many other organizations to identify individually, but she was committed to each.

She began her career teaching for Tallassee Public Schools and retired from Dothan City Schools after educating students for more than three decades. She then supervised student teachers for several years at Troy University in Dothan. In her retirement, this loving and devoted family woman enjoyed being a grandmother.
