Alma Joyce Beard died July 8, 2014 at Southeast Alabama Medical Center. She was 75 years old.
Sister Beard was born July 26, 1938 in the town of Arley, Alabama to Tom and Janie (Cook) Ward. Her mother described her as a happy girl, content to play with her dolls and read. She had the privilege of being raised as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses, and she died a faithful servant of Jehovah. At her death, she was associated with the Dothan, South Park Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
She married Morgan Beard on November 24, 1953, and they began married life together in Cullman, Alabama. After moving several times, they finally settled in the Wiregrass area in 1977. After her children were grown, she was able to spend more time in the ministry, which brought her great joy. She spent many happy hours sharing Bible truths with others. She was known for her gentle, happy personality.
She was predeceased by her parents; her son, Sammy; her husband of 47 years, Morgan; and her sons-in-law, Paul Owens and Roy Daniels.
She is survived by her brother, Harold Ward of Enterprise; sister-in-law, Geneva Hall (Toby Clamon) of Palestine, Texas; son Danny and his wife Donna, of Enterprise; daughters, Debbie Daniels and Helen Owens, both of Dothan; grandchildren, James (Terry) Beard, Daniel Beard, and Geoffrey Beard of Enterprise, Michael (Jessica) Tatum, Amanda (Michael) Gant of Dothan: Richard (Leann) Tatum of Prattville; great-grandchildren Kaylen, Brisen, Hayden, Kayla, and Ashley Tatum of Prattville, Harleigh Beard of Enterprise, and Felicity Gant of Dothan; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at the South Park Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 2627 East Cottonwood Road, Dothan, Alabama 36301, at 2pm on Saturday, July 12, 2014. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Worldwide Work of Jehovah’s Witnesses at any local Kingdom Hall.
