ALONZO JOHNSON JR.
HEADLAND, AL… Alonzo Johnson, a resident of Headland, Alabama, passed away Tuesday morning, May 2, 2023, at his home. He was 84.
Funeral services will be held 3:00 P.M. Wednesday, May 10, 2023, at Wright Funeral Home & Crematory Chapel with Speaker Randy Pryor officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00 P.M. prior to the service. Wright Funeral Home & Crematory is in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Johnson was born in Harlem, New Work to the late Alonzo Johnson, Sr. and Lillian Young Johnson. He lived most of his life in the New York area, where he graduated Stuyvesant High School and graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science in Mathematics from City College of New York. He was captain of the fencing team when he was in college. He moved to Headland, Alabama over thirty years ago after he retired as a systems analyst with Metropolitan Life Insurance Company. He was an avid artist, and was a member of the Wiregrass Art League. He was a self-taught musician.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Joe Johnson.
Leaving to cherish his memories is his wife of sixty-three years, Jeanette Bishop Johnson; his children, Chet Johnson, Jeanine Johnson-Prince (Lucien Prince), and Sean Dino Johnson (Etsil Barriffe-Johnson); his grandchildren, Chris Johnson, Jason Johnson, Nina Johnson, Jariah Knight, Kealy Johnson Glenn, Angelina Waterman, Gerard Waterman II, Celeste Johnson Blackwell, Sean Boyce Johnson, Seanique Johnson, Dean Leroy Johnson, Kyle Alonzo B. Johnson, and Imani B. Johnson; his great-grandchildren, Leah Renee Fraser, Preston Johnson, Bailey Glenn, Alani Cassie Knight, Malcomb E. Collins, Jeremiah Hages, Janae Blackwell, Jaquell Blackwell, Josiah Blackwell, Delilah Johnson, and Kiana Johnson; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
The family of Alonzo Johnson Jr. would like to express their sincere appreciation for all the visits, kind words, phone calls, gifts of food, and prayers. Also, a special thank you to Precious & Wil Green and special friends Cindy & Jeff Bishop.
