Alvin Amanuel Kirkland, 80, of Madrid went home to be with the Lord Sunday, April 15, 2012 following a brief illness.


Funeral services will be 11 am Wednesday, April 18, 2012 at Sunset Funeral home with Dr. Mickey Kirkland, Rev. Stan Cook and Rev. Thomas Kirkland officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Cemetery with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm Tuesday at the funeral home.


Alvin retired from Georgia Pacific after 43 years of service in 2006. He was a farmer and was a member of New Beginning Church in Ashford, AL where he served as Chairman of the Deacons.


Survivors include his wife of 60 years Ann Kirkland; children, Max and Bonnie Kirkland of Madrid, Mickey and Cathy Kirkland of Pike Road, and Angie and Steve Sherrill of Dothan; a brother Thomas and Barbara Kirkland of Abbeville; a sister Ruth and Rufus Bond of Mt. Olive, AL; 8 grandchildren, Kim and Jason Jones of Taylor, Blake and Hope Kirkland of Rehobeth, Matthew and Heather Kirkland of Christianburg, VA, Mark and Molli Kirkland of Pike Road, Candace and Jeremy Cleveland of Montgomery, Chela Kirkland of Montgomery, Mandi McLain of Robertsdale, and Sloan Sherrill of Dothan; 15 great-grandchildren also survive.
