HEADLAND. . .Ammie Parrish, Jr., a resident of Henry County, near Newville, died Monday morning, November 3, 2014, at his home, under the care of Covenant Hospice, with his family at his side. He was 83.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, November 5, 2014, in the Holman-Headland Mortuary Chapel with Reverend Larry Elliott officiating. Burial will follow in the Tolbert Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 P.M. Wednesday at the mortuary.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Tolbert Baptist Church, c/o Charles Brackins, 175 McLain Street, Newville, AL 36353.
Mr. Parrish was born and reared in Geneva County, son of the late Ammie Parrish, Sr. and Ethel Lee Stewart Parrish. He was a graduate of Slocomb High School. He enlisted in the U. S. Air Force and served two tours of duty during the Korean War. Mr. Parrish was a graduate of Troy University, majoring in Math and Science. He enjoyed teaching in Dale County and at the Abbeville Christian Academy for a total of thirty-nine years. After his retirement, Mr. Parrish enjoyed working and caring for his fruit orchard and spending time with his grandchildren, Nathan and Lila Grace. Mr. Parrish was an active member of the Tolbert Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon. He was preceded in death by a sister, Evelyn Green, and a brother, Harry Hershel Parrish.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Margie Vickers Parrish; two sons, Russell Parrish, and Steve Parrish (Lawana); two grandchildren, Nathan and Lila Grace Parrish; three sisters, Hilda Grace Battles, Charlotte Ann Teets (Henry), and Susan Blount (Kenneth); two brothers, Robert Earl Parrish (Mary), and Earnest L. Parrish (Ann).
