Amos Burks Laney
Burks Laney, age 89 of Dothan died early Monday morning May 6, 2019 at Signature HealthCare in Graceville, FL., after a short illness and under the care of Covenant Hospice.
Funeral Services will be held at 4:00 P.M. Wednesday May 8, 2019 in the Chapel of Angels at Family First Funeral & Cremation Care with the Rev. Joey Hudspeth officiating. A private burial will follow. The family will receive friends from 3:00 P.M. until service time Wednesday.
Mr. Laney was born at Horseshoe Bend Reservation in Tallapoosa County son of the late Amos W. Laney and Mattie Hammock Laney. He had lived in Dothan most of his lifetime and served his country in the U.S. Army and National Guard. Mr. Laney retired from Civil Service at Ft. Rucker. Burks was an avid outdoorsman and participated in several different hunting clubs in the area. He was the alligator control man for Southeast Alabama for many years and made numerous appearances on the Charlie Platt Show. He loved collecting Indian Artifacts, a hobby which he started as a youth and was of the Baptist Faith. Other than his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Durley Joyce Rice Laney and a brother Thomas Ronald Laney.
Survivors include a very special nephew Dr. Allan Rice (Laura) of Ozark, their two children his great nephew Dylan Rice and great niece who shares his name Mary Elaine “Laney” Rice, a brother Bobby Keith Laney (Chris), a sister Gypsy Dean Laney Boyd and nephews Dale, Steve and Phillip Boyd.
Care for the Laney family is being provided by Randy Crenshaw, Jason Shepard and the Family First Staff.
