Amy Carolyn Ezell, a resident of Dothan, died Friday, November 10, 2017, at Wesley Place on Honeysuckle after an extended illness. She was 81. Services will be held on Tuesday, November 14, at 2 P.M. at Ward-Wilson Funeral Home in Dothan. Burial will follow at Mount Olive Cemetery in the Rocky Head community in Dale County. Visitation will be at Ward Wilson Funeral Home, Monday evening, November 13, from 5 to 7 P.M.
Carolyn was born March 16, 1936, in Houston County, AL, one of five children of Sanford Cumbie
Still and Stella Mae Benton, and was a graduate of Ashford High School. Carolyn graduated from Troy State Teacher’s College in 1957 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education and began teaching first grade with the Dothan City School System later that same year at Southside Elementary School. In 1970 she began teaching with the Houston County School System, where she taught first- and third grades at Rehobeth until her retirement. Carolyn married Lewie Mack Ezell, of Rocky Head, AL, in June of 1961 and was active in Ridgecrest Baptist Church for more than thirty years. She held a life-long interest in Alabama history, rivers, and colonial settlements.
Carolyn was predeceased by her parents Sanford Cumbie Still and Stella Mae Benton; her husband of 56 years, Lewie Mack Ezell; and her siblings Samuel Still and Linda Ray Parker (Stanley). Carolyn is survived by a son, Bill Ezell and wife Dolly; granddaughter Amy Ezell; sisters Sarah Moorer (James) and Martha Still; three step-granddaughters and a step great-granddaughter; one grandson; and nieces and nephews. Family will be accepting flowers.
