ABBEVILLE. . .Andrew William “Andy” Gombar, Jr., a resident of Abbeville, died Friday afternoon, July 7, 2017, in the St. Francis Hospital in Columbus, Georgia. He was 77.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. (C.D.T.) Sunday, July 9, 2017, in the Mt. Zion Free Will Baptist Church with Reverend Ralph Baker and Reverend Jim Brown officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Holman-Abbeville Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00 P.M. (C.D.T.) Sunday in the church sanctuary.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Mt. Zion Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Dolly Vickers, 204 Dothan Road, Abbeville, AL 36310 or to the family or funeral home for funeral expenses.
Mr. Gombar was born and reared in Steubenville, Ohio and formerly lived in Ft. Walton Beach, Florida before moving to Henry County, Alabama, north of Abbeville, fifteen years ago. He was a member of the Mt. Zion Free Will Baptist Church, the Motley Men, and also participated in the Abbeville Senior Citizens. Mr. Gombar was formerly employed by Bondy’s Ford as a mechanic. In earlier years, he retired from K-Mart in Ft. Walton Beach as a mechanic. Mr. Gombar was preceded in death by his father, Andrew William Gombar, Sr., his mother, Benedetta Faccinto Polvino, a son, Douglas John Gombar, a granddaughter, Kayla Brown, a grandson, Kevin Scott Gombar, two brothers, Richard Gombar and John Gombar.
Surviving relatives include three daughters, Deanna Whitaker (Scott), Brundidge, AL; April Grantham (Greg), Waverly Hall, GA; and Andrea Gombar (Johnny Boyette), Dothan; a son, Phillip Gombar, Tennessee; four sisters, Deloris Hamby, Tennessee; Deanna Glover, Ohio; Donna Cino, New York; and Darlene Gombar, Tennessee; a brother, Terry Gombar, Tennessee; seven grandchildren, Ronny Simpson, Brittany Lowe (Donald), William Gombar, Misty Poston (Michael), Jimmy Brown, D.J. Gombar, Jr. (Shannon), and Matthew Gombar; seven great-grandchildren.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Johnny Boyette, Michael Poston, Cameron Poston, Carson Poston, Ryan Noll and Jimmy Brown. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Billy Walker and Daniel Boone.
