Angela was born Dec 24, 1946, and was a fixture at her family’s jewelry store, Saad’s Jewelers , where over the years she developed a talent for jewelry design with knowledge and hands-on experience gleaned from six decades in the business. The Christmas season of 2015 was the first time since she was old enough to peek over the counters that Angela was not at the store. Her declining health prevented her being there.
Angela is survived by her loving sister, Tricia of Ft Lauderdale , FL and her brother, George and his wife Debbie of Dothan ; Three nephews, Michael Saad of Kabul, Afghanistan , Jason Saad and Austin Saad Dothan ; two great nieces, Brittany and Hayli Saad ; and a great nephew Spencer Saad.
Her beloved parents, Jameely and Nick Saad, preceded Angela in death and it was in their memory that Angela hosted a memorial service each year in their honor at the church she helped found, St. Michael's Antiochian Christian Orthodox Church Mission in Dothan.
Angela was a graduate of Dothan High School , Class of 1964 and attended Agnes Scott College in Atlanta. She was a devout activist for the DHS Graduating Class of 1964 and helped to organize every reunion. Angela was a lifelong learner who loved reading and travel. She was a devoted University of Alabama football fan to the end, and loved her Atlanta Braves enough to be a season ticket holder for years.
For as long as her family can remember, Angela shared her love of cooking and entertaining with so many people - from new families in her church to her own family , and her array of friends from throughout the nation and the world. If someone was passing through Dothan, she’d put together a spread of Middle Eastern appetizers and dinner and invite other friends and family to drop by. She taught her great nieces to cook some of the family favorites, and even traveled with her utensils to Florida to throw a birthday party for her sister. When her Texas family was spending a week at the beach, Angela drove down for the day armed with a trunk load of goodies, including boiled peanuts, watermelons and all manner of other delicacies as if there were no grocery stores around.
Devotion to civic and charitable causes was a large part of Angela’s commitment to making Dothan a better place. She was always the kind of deeply involved and passionate committee member that organizations could count on. In fact, it was in trying to finish a project for the Pilot Club that Angela suffered the accident that would lead to her declining health. Against a deadline, she continued to work on her project after she fell and it wasn’t until a committee member came by to pick up the information that Angela was found on the floor – with the work completed. An ambulance was called.
Angela joined the Pilot Club of Dothan in 1984. She immediately became a leader ( following her father's footsteps with Dothan Civic Organizations) where she served as President of the club in 1998 and served in all officer's positions of the Club over her 30 years of service. Angela's service to the community was evident as she served as Pageant Chairman for the Dothan Pageants until 2014. She also served as Co-Chairman of the Alzheimer's Benefit Luncheon for 20 years. Angela supported the Pilot Club international theme of Brain Disorders and the Dothan Pilot Club's Project Lifesaver, a service project that provides tracking bracelets thru Houston and Geneva County Sheriff's Offices for Alzheimer Patients and other persons with brain disorders that wander from their caregivers. She will be missed greatly by the club .
Angela was both a loyal and faithful supporter of the Alzheimer's Resource Center, and held many offices, which included serving as a dedicated member of the Board of Directors for five years, the Advisory Board since 2008, and the annual A Walk to Remember Steering Committee for more than 20 years, where because of her attention to detail , she proved to be an invaluable asset to the walk. She also served as co-chairman of the Alzheimer's Benefit Luncheon held on Secretary's day for more than 20 years. Proceeds from this luncheon went to purchase equipment for Project Lifesaver. Whenever a volunteer was needed for any project of event, Angela was there, usually at the registration table , because she knew so many people. Through her generous spirit, she touched the lives of many community members; and because of her concern for others, she brought awareness to the tragedy that is Alzheimer's disease. She had a heart of gold and was willing to help any way she could, even when her health was failing.
Memory Eternal.
