Anita Walker Robinson
Anita Walker Robinson, a lifelong resident of Dothan, died Tuesday, October 2, 2012. She was 91.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, October 5, 2012 at Byrd Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Robert C. Oates officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Hill Cemetery with Byrd Funeral Home on West Main Street directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. In lieu of flowers the family request memorials be made to the Alzheimer’s Resource Center, P O Box 1170, Dothan, AL, 36302.
Mrs. Robinson was born in Dothan on March 2, 1921, where she lived all of her life. She graduated from Dothan High School in 1939 and worked for many years from the 1960’s with her husband, Jack, at Robinson’s Grocery and Market on South Appletree Street until they retired in 1983. She had a gift of hospitality and loved to cook for her family and friends which inspired the cookbook, “A Daughter’s Promise”. She loved playing bridge, golfing and antiquing with her friends. Mrs. Robinson was a member of First Presbyterian Church and the Dothan Service League.
Mrs. Robinson was predeceased by her husband of 70 years, Jack D. Robinson; a son, Charles William Robinson; siblings and spouses, Herbert and Pearl Walker, Lillian and Tom Wynn, Mary Ila and Burton Pratt; and close family members, Rayford and Dorothy Robinson, and Geraldine, “Jerry” Poitevint.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Dave and Nancy Robinson of Fairhope, AL and a daughter and son-in-law, Anita and Mark Tew of Atlanta, GA; grandchildren, Paige McNamara of Palo Alto, CA, Ashley Bunkley, Jay Robinson, Ryan Tew, and Sarah Tew, all of Atlanta, GA; great-grandchildren, Connor, Mitchell, and Davis McNamara, Megan and Charlotte Bunkley, Jack Robinson, and Grayson Tew; and several nieces and nephews.
