Mrs. Ann R. Sims, a former resident of Enterprise for 50 years, passed away Thursday, July 24, 2014 at her residence in Shalimar, FL. She was 88.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 11 am Saturday, July 26 at St. John Catholic Church with Father Gregory Okarobia officiating. Burial will follow in Meadowlawn Cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home and Crematory directing. The family will receive friends Friday from 5 until 7 pm at Sorrells Funeral Home in Enterprise. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to St. John Catholic Church, 123 Heath St., Enterprise, AL 36330, or Emerald Coast Hospice, 340 Beal Parkway NW, Suite, C., Fort Walton Beach, FL 32548.
There will also be a memorial service held at Hawthorne House in Bob Hope Village in Shalimar, FL on Monday, July 28 at 10 am.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years Thomas Ray Sims, and a son David Michael Sims.
Mrs. Sims was born January 8, 1926 in Providence, Rhode Island to the late William and Rose McGovern Geary. She turned down a scholarship to Rhode Island School of Design to become a very proud naval wife, loving mother and grandmother, and doting GG. Mrs. Sims was one of the original members of St. John Catholic Church where she was very involved with the Women’s Guild, taught Sunday School, and was always willing to help in any area of the church. She was always positive, loved to laugh and enjoyed life. Ann was artistic and loved to play bridge, though she hated to lose. She will always be remembered for never saying anything negative about anyone.
Survivors include 5 children: Beverly Ann Cheatham (Jim), Enterprise, Patricia Lynn Martin (Danny), Shalimar, FL, Christopher Allen Sims (Edith), Winston-Salem, NC, Richard Keith Sims (Pete), Tulsa, OK, Thomas R. Sims, New York; 9 grandchildren: Heather Cooper McKinney, Nicole Cooper, Michael Cooper, Amanda Martin Middleton, Daniel Martin, Jr., Melody Sims, Noel Sims Reynolds, Brian Sims, Steven B. Sims; 11 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; 2 sisters-in-law, Syble Highfield (Jay), Bella Vista, AK, Margie Tinker, Fresno, CA.
