Anna Rae “Mama Bobbie” Whitehead, a resident of Dothan, passed away Friday morning, June 17, 2022 at her residence at the age of 97.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 20, 2022 at Glover Funeral Home Chapel with Hospice Chaplain Kathy Stumbaugh officiating. Burial will follow in Cottonwood City Cemetery with Glover Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 9:30 a.m. until 10:15a.m. on Monday prior to service time.
Flowers are being accepted or memorials may be made to Southern Care Hospice.
“Mama Bobbie” was born October 22, 1924 in Dale County to George Ray and Annie Mae Hoffman Herring and lived most of her life in Houston County. She was a homemaker and a seamstress. She was a member of Union Hill Baptist Church.
She is predeceased by her husband, Joseph Luther “Papa Luke” Whitehead; two daughters, Ella Ruth Holland and Joleen Bowden; three sisters, Lorraine Brunson, Erleen Wiggins and Mae Helen Friant.
Survivors include a son, Jimmy Lee Whitehead (Kathy) of Dothan; a brother, George Berry Herring (Murial) of Montgomery; three sisters, Dorothy Curry Nixon of Pinckard, Martha Pope of Dothan and Sara Allgood (Jimmy) of Dothan; 7 grandchildren, Paige Brown (Greg), Timothy Whitehead, Keith Bowden, Karen Gosnell (Steven), Becky Bowden, Tonia Williamson, Amanda Lee (Phillip); 13 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
The family would like to thank Southern Care Hospice for their compassionate care of their loved one.
Active pallbearers will be Timothy Whitehead, Keith Bowden, Phillip Lee, Stephen Gosnell, Ryan Williamson, Ryley Williamson, Avery Phillips and Greg Brown.
