Annie Clyde Sims of Samson, Alabama, passed away on August 25, 2017. She was 81 years old. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, August 27, 2017 at First Baptist Samson with the Rev. Sam Totten officiating. Burial will follow in Traveler’s Rest Cemetery with Warren Holloway Ward Funeral Home of Geneva directing. The family will receive friends at the church on Sunday before the service from 1 to 3 p.m.
Annie Clyde was born to the late Homer Clyde and Minnie Eubanks Smith, in Samson, Alabama on January 18, 1936. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother (Nannie), daughter, and friend. Being a mother and grandmother was her gift and calling. She devoted herself to her children and grandchildren. She was deeply loved by each and every one of them. She was a friend to everyone she met and loved dearly by all who knew her. She had a servants heart and lived her life in genuine service to family, friends, and strangers alike. Her famous “Happy Birthday” song and cards were a treasure and will certainly be missed each year by so many. Most importantly, she knew and was known by her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, George O. Sims, Jr; her grandson, Stuart L. Sims; step-father, W.R. “Willie” Finch; three brothers, Cyrus Smith, Dennis Finch and Michael Finch.
She is survived by her three children, George Sims lll (Ann), Bart Sims (Faith), and Lori Baxter (Jeff); 10 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild; one brother, Stanley Smith (Karla); one sister, Sheila Spears (Roy “Moose”); three sisters-in-law, Ola Ann Lee (Jim), Diana Finch and Gail Smith; many nieces and nephews; and more friends than she could count.
