Mrs. Annie Lois Guilford Mertes, age 84, of Gordon, Alabama passed away Sunday, August 15, 2021 at Southeast Health in Dothan, Alabama following a brief illness.

Graveside services will be held Wednesday, August 18, 2021 at 3:00 p.m. at Madrid Cemetery in Madrid, Alabama with Dereck Womack officiating and Glover Funeral Home of Dothan directing. Social distancing and masking will be observed.

Mrs. Mertes was born July 29, 1937 in Donalsonville, Georgia the daughter of Alto Jefferson Guilford and Stella Mae Floyd Guilford. She was a convenience store clerk for 30 years. Mrs. Mertes was of the Baptist faith.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Danny Strickland; two sisters, Sally Clark and Mattie McCord; two brothers, A.J. Guilford and Buddy Guilford.

Survivors include her loving husband of 44 years, Dennis Mertes of Gordon; son, James C. Lewis (Drenda) of Newton; daughter, Ann Spurling (Allen) of Gordon; brother, Johnny “Roly” Guilford (Debbie) of Lovetown; two grandsons, Nicholas Lewis (Ashley) of Newton and James “BJ” Spurling (Jessica) of Gordon; three great-grandsons, Bradley Lewis, Christopher Lewis and Danny Spurling; special granddaughter Karleigh Redmon; several special nieces and nephews; faithful fur dog companion, Odie.

Flowers will be accepted.
