Annie Lora Turner


Annie Lora Turner, affectionately known by many as Lulu or Big Mama, passed away peacefully in her home in Henry County, Alabama on September 12, 2023. Born in the same county on January 15, 1948, she lived a full and vibrant life, touching many with her humor, spirit, and loving nature.








Annie was the beloved daughter of the late Troy Turner and Emma Dozier Westbrook. She was the cherished sister to Minnie Bighems of Headland, AL, Angela (Arnold) O'neal Lake Weles, 71, brothers, George (Ruby) Turner of Dothan, AL, and Ricky Brown of Miami, FL. She was also a devoted niece to her Uncle James (Brenda) McKiney and Aunt Lola (Dewey) Crawford of Dothan, Alabama. Known as Aunt Lulu to four nieces and four nephews, she was also a dear friend to many within her community.


Annie worked diligently in construction, driving cement trucks in Atlanta, Georgia, and operating heavy equipment. Her hard work, dedication, and tenacity were well respected by her colleagues and friends in the industry. Despite her demanding career, she always found time for her family and friends, demonstrating a level of commitment and love that was truly inspiring.


In her leisure time, Annie had a fondness for word puzzles, a hobby that showcased her sharp mind and problem-solving skills. She also had an infectious sense of humor, often leaving her loved ones in stitches with her quick wit and clever jokes. Her spirit was truly one of a kind, and she was a beacon of joy and laughter to all who knew her.


Annie was a woman of tremendous heart and spirit, a loving sister, aunt, and friend who will be deeply missed. Her legacy of love, laughter, and perseverance will live on through the many lives she touched. She was a testament to the words of Maya Angelou, who once said, "I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel." Annie made everyone she met feel loved, valued, and cherished.


She is preceded in death by her parents and Wayne. In addition to her siblings, nieces, nephews, and countless friends, Annie leaves behind a large and loving extended family. Her departure is a tremendous loss to all who knew her, but her spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of those who loved her.


As we say goodbye to our beloved Lulu, we remember the laughter she brought into our lives, the love she spread, and the strength she showed us. We celebrate a life well-lived, filled with joy and warmth. Annie Lora Turner, our Big Mama, will be deeply missed and forever remembered. From your loving sister, “Sis you will be missed sitting at my table with your brother and I. We won’t have our Lulu to make us laugh anymore. I know that you are with Dad and Mom and Wayne now, so keep them laughing in heaven the way you did here on earth with us.”
