ABBEVILLE. . .Athenia Hamilton Hendley, a resident of Abbeville, died Saturday afternoon, July 24, 2021, in the Henry County Health & Rehabilitation Facility. She was 86.
Due to the rise in COVID-19, a private funeral service for family and close friends will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, July 27, 2021, in the Holman-Abbeville Mortuary Chapel with Pastor Jud Waldrop officiating. Burial will follow in the Union Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Arthritis Foundation, 3800 Colonnade Parkway, No. 140, Birmingham, AL 35243.
Mrs. Hendley was born and reared in Abbeville where she lived most of her lifetime. She was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church. Mrs. Hendley was preceded in death by her parents, Emory Slaton Hamilton and Dorothy Stokes Hamilton, her husband, Billy Clyde “Bill” Hendley, Sr., a daughter, Lisa Hendley, and a brother, Homer L. “Bo” Hamilton.
Surviving relatives include a daughter, Terry Goldman (James), Greensboro, GA; a son, Bill Hendley, Jr., Abbeville; a sister-in-law, Jo Hamilton, Arlington, TX; a granddaughter, Alexa McKeever (Greg), a great-granddaughter, Sloane Hendley McKeever.
