EDWIN COMMUNITY. . .Austin Lee Turner, a resident of the Edwin Community of Henry County, died early Tuesday morning, May 21, 2019, at his home. He was 86.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Friday, May 24, 2019, in the Holman-Abbeville Mortuary Chapel with Reverend Mickey Skinner officiating. Graveside services, with military honors, will follow in the Edwin Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. Thursday at the mortuary in Abbeville.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions can be made to Kindred Hospice, 2740 Headland Avenue, Dothan, AL 36303.
Mr. Turner was born and reared in the Edwin Community, son of the late Grady Turner and Amanda Warren Turner. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. While serving in Korea, he was wounded and received the Purple Heart. Mr. Turner lived in Romeoville, Illinois before returning to the Edwin Community in 1972. He formerly owned and operated Turner Trucking Company and had also been employed by other trucking companies as a truck driver. Mr. Turner was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Skinner Turner, a sister, Merlene Trawick and three brothers, William Turner, Bob Turner and Lagrand Turner.
Surviving relatives include seven daughters, Kathy Darin (Mike), Mt. Vernon, Illinois; Loretta Cohron, Pelham, AL; Cheryl Turner (Gene), Echo Community; Patricia Patterson (Richard), Edwin Community; Tammie Brown (Mark), Ozark; Judy Layton (Jeremy), Headland; and Brandi Langley (Scott), Headland; three sons, Jim Turner (Debra), Edwin Community; Terry Turner (Gloria), Abbeville; and Bob Turner (Juanita), Abbeville; a sister, Alice Morrison, Edwin Community; three brothers, Billy Turner (Ann), Edwin Community; Mack Turner (June), Skipperville; and Jack Turner (Martha), Dothan; twenty-two grandchildren, numerous great and great-great-grandchildren.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Jon Turner, Ryne Turner, Michael Martell, Dustin Reagan, Kevin Kenway and Richard Patterson.
The family would like to express their appreciation to a special daughter-in-law, Gloria Turner and also to Grad Stokes for the loving care and kindness shown to Mr. Turner during his illness.
