ABBEVILLE. . .Barbara Alston Skipper, a resident of Abbeville, died early Tuesday morning, August 28, 2018, in the Henry County Health & Rehabilitation Facility. She was 88.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, August 30, 2018, in the Abbeville United Methodist Church with Reverend Randy Greene officiating. Burial will follow in Abbeville Memorial Cemetery-East. Holman-Abbeville Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 6:30 P.M. Wednesday at the mortuary in Abbeville.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Abbeville United Methodist Church “Choir Fund”, P.O. Box 100, Abbeville, AL 36310.
Mrs. Skipper was born and reared in Marianna, Florida, daughter of the late Joseph Claude Alston and Claudia Allen Alston. She lived in Abbeville all her adult life where she was self-employed with her husband as a bookkeeper in the operation of Sam’s Poultry, Inc. An avid Auburn fan, Mrs. Skipper was a member of the Abbeville United Methodist Church and formerly sang in the church choir. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sam Pat Skipper, Jr., a son, Sam Gordon Skipper, two infant children, and two sisters, Betty Standland and Mozelle Reynolds.
Surviving relatives include two daughters, Debbie Mobley (Danny), and Dana Starling (Philip), a son, Jeff Skipper (Jody), all of Abbeville; a daughter-in-law, Barbara Skipper, Ashford; four grandchildren, Joey Skipper (Callie), Whitney DeBord (Tim), Nick Starling and Brad Skipper; two great-grandchildren, Ava Skipper and Cora Kate Skipper.
