BERTHA COMMUNITY. . .Barbara Derotha Hendry Dunlap, a resident of the Bertha Community of Dale County, passed away Friday morning, December 16, 2022, at her home, surrounded by her loving family. She was 86.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 P.M. Sunday, December 18, 2022, in the New Hope Baptist Church with Pastor Bill Hart and Pastor David Lewis officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 2:30 P.M. Sunday in the church sanctuary. Holman-Headland Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Echo Fire & Rescue, 11687 East Alabama Highway 27, Newville, AL 36353 or to the New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Nancy Gast, 6349 County Road 67, North, Skipperville, AL 36374.
Mrs. Dunlap was born in Frostproof, Florida. She lived in Hampton, Virginia before moving to the Bertha Community in 1968. Mrs. Dunlap was a 1954 graduate of the Dale County High School in Ozark where she was named the class Valedictorian. She also received an Associates Degree from Alverson Draughon Business College in Birmingham. Mrs. Dunlap retired from the Internal Revenue Service as an Auditor. After retirement, she opened Dunlap Accounting in Ozark. In earlier years, Mrs. Dunlap was employed by the U. S. Army veterans affairs. She was member of the New Hope Baptist Church. Mrs. Dunlap was preceded in death by her father, Cardinal Hendry, Sr., her mother, Ila Williams, her husband, Jack Dunlap, Sr., a daughter-in-law, Maria Smith Dunlap, a special aunt, Ludie Blankenship and her husband, Gaston Blankenship.
Surviving relatives include a daughter, Cindy Carr (Joe Ed), Edwin Community; two sons, Jack Dunlap, Jr. (Gloria), Piedmont, SC; and Mickey Dunlap (Tracy), Bertha Community; grandchildren, Crystal Segars (Adam), Joseph Carr, Clint Waters (Melody Hendrix), Cathy Price (Chris), Amy Fleming (Ben), Logan Dunlap (Leslie), Graham Dunlap (Ashley Etheredge), Mickenzie Braman (Chris), and Carson Dunlap; eighteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.
Serving as active pallbearers will be the grandsons.
The family would like to express their appreciation to Gentiva Hospice and caregiver, Lillian Newman, for the loving care and kindness shown to Mrs. Dunlap during her illness.
