Barbara Jean Layton, a resident of Dothan, passed away on Monday, January 4, 2021 at a local hospital. She was 86 years old.
Funeral services will be held for family only at 11 am on Thursday, January 7, 2021 in Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Alan Bryan officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park.
Mrs. Layton was born on September 11, 1934 in Houston County and graduated from Ashford High School in 1952. She was a member of Cloverdale Baptist Church. Mrs. Layton was the matriarch of the family and took care of everyone. She loved her family and great-grandchildren dearly and never missed an opportunity to watch her grandchildren’s games. Mrs. Layton had a passion for sports, she was the most avid Alabama Fan to have never stepped foot on the campus!
Mrs. Layton was preceded in death by her grandchild, Lacy Layton, her parents, Alto and Myra Kate Hammit Elmore, her brothers, Russell Elmore, Ed Elmore, Gene Elmore, and Donald Elmore.
Survivors include her husband of 67 years, Gordon “Wren” Layton; her daughter, Lisa Kelly; her son, Mike (Robin) Layton; her grandchildren, Jamison (Carrie) Kelly, Jessica (Chad) Welch, Madison (Stewart) Rivenbark; her great-grandchildren, Mabrie Welch, Brackin Welch, Addyson Kelly, Maddox Kelly, and Bentlie Kelly; and several nieces and nephews.
