Barbara Jo Gillespie Hamic of Samson, Alabama passed away on Thursday, May 9, 2019 at Gulf Coast Regional Hospital in Panama City, Florida. She was 74 years young. 


 


Barbara was born in Commerce, Georgia on November 3, 1944 to the late Edgar Gillespie and Dorothy Bolton Gillespie. Barbara was a loving, strong, and fearless wife, mother, grandmother, and sister. Her children and her grandchildren were her world. She enjoyed life, dancing, traveling, and simply being with her family.


 Barbara had many occupations, but her favorite was being a mother and grandmother. Second favorite to being a substitute teacher. She always talked very fondly of the students she worked with. 


 Barbara is preceded in death by her parents and by one child, William Jennings Hamic. 


 She is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, Mr. Frederick Charles Hamic, Sr. of Samson; three daughters, Barbara Alyce Hamic Chestnut (Lee) of Commerce, GA; Brandie Charle Hamic-Savage (Tyler) of Panama City Beach, FL; Edie Vallon Hamic Hand (Dustin) of Samson, AL; and one son, Frederick 'Ric' Charles Hamic, Jr. of South Sudan, Africa; three granddaughters, Haley Vallon Chestnut Veal (Aaron) of Gainesville, GA; Ava Grace Savage of Panama City Beach, FL; and Scarlet Loralei Hand of Samson, AL; one brother Eddie Gillespie (Lisa) of Martin, GA; and one niece, Cheyenne Gillespie.


 The family will receive friends at Warren Holloway Ward Funeral Home on Sunday, May 12, 2019 from 6:00PM-8:00PM.


Funeral services will be held at 10:00AM Monday, May 13, 2019 at First Baptist Church of Samson with Brother Dale Morgan officiating. Burial will follow at Travelers Rest Cemetery with Warren Holloway Ward Funeral Home directing.  


 The family requests that in lieu of flowers that contributions be made to Children's Hospital of Alabama 1600 7th Ave S. Birmingham, AL 35233 of which her granddaughter, Scarlet , is a patient.


 Barbara will be remembered as a beautiful, sassy, southern belle, wife, and cheerleader of everyone she came into contact with.


 The family wishes to thank friends and the community for their heartfelt sympathies during this difficult time.  The family finds peace in knowing that she is dancing her heart away in Heaven to Mustang Sally.
