Barbara M. Peters, age 83 of Dothan passed away Tuesday, September 24, 2019 in a Dothan hospital.
Graveside services will be held at 10am Saturday, September 28, 2019 at Memphis Baptist Church cemetery with Reverend Rick Glenn and Reverend Jim Tate officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Lighthouse Children’s Home, 7771 Mahan Drive, Tallahassee, FL 32309.
Barbara was born March 15, 1936 in Columbus, Georgia to the late Alva and Clarice Strickland Martin. For several years she lived in Miami, Florida before moving to Houston County. She later moved to Panama City for several years until her permanent move to Dothan where she lived the remainder of her life. Barbara had received her Certificate in Cosmetology, with the highest score in her class, many years ago. She then worked with Gayfers, J.C. Penney’s and in several beauty parlors before retiring after 35 years. She was also a long-time member of Memphis Baptist Church. Barbara enjoyed many things in life, such as sewing, shelling peas, shopping at Sears, water aerobics and traveling to the beach and the mountains. Of all the enjoyment these things brought her, nothing compared to the time she spent with her family, especially her grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by two brothers. Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Ken Peters of Dothan; three children, Jacky Peters of Dothan, Terry (Suzanne) Peters of Reddick, Florida and Jeannie (Derrill) Morris of Taylor; nine grandchildren, to include a special granddaughter, Bethany Darvin. Six great grandchildren as well numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
